Quickly Create a Search Term

Since finding information in our resources is so important, the Logos developers are constantly looking for ways to make searching easier for us the users. A helpful feature in the recent release of Logos 8.10 is no exception.

We can now quickly transform a reference into a search term! I know that’s clear as mud so let’s look at a practical example.

Imagine we’re reading Psalm 24:5 in the ESV which refers to the God of his salvation. So now we’re curious. Are there other verses in the Old Testament containing both the Hebrew lemmas translated God and salvation?

Give this a go:

  • Open the ESV to Psalm 24:5 (A)
  • Right click on the word God (B)
  • Select the Hebrew lemma translated God (the word with the ring icon) on the left side of the context menu (C)
  • Select Bible in the Search section on the right side of the context menu (D)
  • Notice a search is generated for every occurrence of this Hebrew lemma in the Old Testament (E)

Now, however, we’ve got to get the second Hebrew lemma translated salvation into the search box so we can generate an AND search locating verses containing both lemmas. So here’s where the new 8.10 feature comes into play:

  • Right click on the word salvation in Psalm 24:5 (F)
  • Select the Hebrew lemma translated salvation (the word with the ring icon) on the left side of the context menu (G)
  • Select Search in the Copy reference section on the right side of the context menu (this action places on the clipboard a Logos search term for the lemma) (H)
  • Right click after the first search term in the search box  (I)
  • Select Paste (J)
  • Notice the second search term has been added to the box (K) (Make sure as space appears between the two search terms) (L)
  • Press the Enter key to generate a search locating Old Testament verses containing both lemmas! (M)

This new power-user feature, almost hidden on the context menu, is going to be a huge timesaver when we’re setting up detailed search queries. Enjoy!
